1 Welcome and apologies.

Jeremy Taylor welcomed everybody to Lindfield. No apologies.

2 Agreement of Agenda

The agenda was agreed.

3 Minutes of Board Meeting, 21 September 2002

The minutes were approved.

4 Matters arising

No matters were mentioned under this item.

5 Membership

New members

SNADIR, Italy, (a teachers’ association with 26,000 members) was accepted as a new member.

The Danish organisation that applied, was looked into, but we could not see that the contact to the RE-classroom was obvious.
Revision of membership list

Jeremy Taylor will send the list to all board members for updating.

Some organisations have merged, others have withdrawn from EFTRE due to lack of money to pay the contribution.

Further expansion

Spain: Geneviève Locqueville will continue working with the Spanish organisation.
Malta: Geneviève Locqueville has contacts here.
Central and Eastern Europe: Marianna Szabó will contact relevant people here and send brochures.

As for Turkey, Marit Hallset Svare will get in touch with a contact to find out more about RE there, and we could invite a representative to the conference in 2004.

It would be obvious to especially invite potential members from the Baltic States to the 2004 meeting.

6 Finances

Only 16 organisations paid in 2002, of these 3 did not include any form for identification. Some returned the forms saying that they had no means of paying, others that they contributed to EFTRE in other ways. 3 letters have been prepared to the organisations based on their payment status:

  • those who have paid and identified themselves,
  • those who might be among the 3 who have paid but without identifying themselves,
  • all the organisations in England and Wales who will pay into the account held in the Netherlands, and not as previously agreed into a separate account in England. This also means that we have not received any money from these organisations for 2002.  We will invite them to contribute for 2003 as well as 2003.

Each transaction costs €6,80 per €100. At present we have about €1875 in our account. This will primarily cover Marianna Szabó’s travel expenses, printing the brochure and postage when mailing them.

The money left from the Edinburgh conference (aprox € 6,000) needs to be transferred to our account. [This has been traced since the meeting and is being transferred; it is actually £6k, not euros!  JHT]

7 Legal Status

We filled in the forms that are required, and when all the paperwork is done, Hans Fijn van Draat will add our organisation number to our notepaper. The bank account will change name when all is clear.

8 Brochure

The brochure is nearly finished. Thanks to Hans Fijn van Draat for the work with it! Printing costs will amount to approx €600,for 1,000 copies. The letter with updated information to be included is ready. The brochure will be distributed to Board members either in Budapest or with the invoice.

9 CoGREE report

Jeremy Taylor informed on the work so far. The Council of Europe has a group looking into how to improve intercommunity relations where RE is one part of the picture. John Keast is a member here.  [See appendix for list of Council of Europe member countries.]

CD Rom of Vienna Consultation: Thanks to Paul Hopkins for producing the CDRoms! It was sent to all that took part.  Further copies will be mailed to Exec members for use promotionally.

Tübingen initiative proposal. We discussed the proposal, and raised some questions to it that Jeremy Taylor will bring to the meeting of CoGREE in Utrecht.

Future meetings: The next meeting will be in Utrecht in 2 weeks time. One possibility is having a joint conference in 2005, when none of the member organisations have their own conference.

10 Next Conference: 2004 report on progress

Jeremy Taylor informed on the work that has been done in Finland. The dates are fixed, 26-29 August 2004. The theme is RE: Educating the whole person. The conference committee sent a draft programme for us to discuss. We asked Jeremy Taylor to bring some of our thoughts back to the committee. The brochure will only be online this time, but with a possibility to print it.

11 Internet site

Not all national reports are up to date. The ones older than 1999 will be removed. The site will also be used for advertising the conference in 2004. We would like to continue to invite Paul Hopkins to our Board meetings, but the funding for it needs to come from somewhere else than EFTRE for the time being.

12 Teacher exchanges

FREE and Martin Rogers have now 4-5 scholarships a year, for 1 month exchanges. Not all of these are being used. Jeremy Taylor will check if the Scandinavian teachers also can come into consideration for scholarships.
Cath Sinclair, Carin Laudrup and Marit Hallset Svare continue to work on the EFTRE based teacher exchange.

13 Future Exec and Board meetings

Board: 26/28 September 2003 in Budapest [Note change of date from original one]
Exec: Either Trondheim 21 February 2004 or Paris 20 March 2004 (we may want to invite someone from the conference committee to this meeting)

14 Any other business

Warm thanks to Jeremy Taylor for arranging everything for the meeting!

Trondheim 24 March 2003
Marit Hallset Svare
