Sonja

Evaluation of conference in Bruges 2010
- A
warm thank you to Hugo for all his work preparing the conference.
-
Programme: We seem to have found a good mixture of
keynotes, workshops and field trips. Most experienced a good and warm
atmosphere both professionally and personally.
-
The trip to Flanders did not quite work out as planned as not all
participants had read the leaflet, and the bus company did not provide
buses with DVD facilities. In the future, we need to make sure that
this is better prepared.
-
For the first time we had a substantial, and enthusiastic, group participants
from the south of Europe. It was therefore important that we had a
language group in French.
- Language:
All lectures and workshops were done in English, This is a challenge
– would it be possible to give workshops in several languages?
Could Board members help translate?
-
Finances: Income € 13383, out (as of 20.11.2010)
€ 13937; we are still waiting for a bill from Pauliina to repay
her travel expenses. The loss will be less that we feared in April.
The house we rented for the Exec €850 to save on accommodation
costs and facilitate preparing the conference, was charged on the
conference budget.
- Approx
€1400 was spent on support.
- Articles
of Faith paid for most of the bags.
- Other
items: Surprisingly many booked very late. Renting a house
was a very good idea, and is recommended for the future.
3.
2013 Conference
Programme:
Format 3 keynote speakers (with relevance to theme and school) and approx
10 workshops to choose from, each running at least twice, and maybe
have options in German and French? Rapporteur is a good way of summing
up the conference. Will school visits be possible? We need to formulate
some objects for the conference
Visit: if we offer a visit within the conference it
must be both theme and school related. If more touristic, then it ought
to be offered after or before the conference days.
Dates:
Wednesday-Saturday worked well, and if possible we suggest that for
next time. The end of August is problematic for some, good for som
Practicalities
- The
address of the conference place on each piece of paper, and at least
one phone number to contact in case of trouble, and taxi numbers
- Pass
on the info to the next organizing group, and create continuity, along
with a to do list
- Using
same font, EFTRE logo etc
Time
line
- January
2011 briefing sheet with info from past conferences
-
March 2011 Board response to theme and structure
- Advertise
the dates as soon as possible
- Board
members are responsible and need to play an active role in promoting
the conference
- Oct
Nov 2011 details (also budget) need to be in place, move ahead with
micro planning
Clarify
- Swedish/Exec
responsibilities and expectations.
-
Build on the last conference, ratifying the decisions the group makes.
Collaboration in some way from the beginning.
- Make
a contract on what agreement we have on beforehand.
-
Paul writes up a briefing sheet.
-
Marit will be contact person.
Finances:
Need to clarify the financial situation, who will take the
profit – and the loss, EFTRE or the organizing organization?
- We
need to include some 10 people in the costing.
- European
theme not yet announced. If conference theme links up to this, we
could apply for funding at various levels.
-
Aiming at a small profit, to be on the safe side
-
Look for sponsors…
Suggested
theme:
- Fine
theme but needs refined and careful use of words as translations are
always culturally tricky. Love translates very differently; Eros and
agape, caritas
- “Challenging
RE - exploring differences..” will it be a good idea to continue
the wording from previous conferences?
- “love
and relations” is culturally determined
-
Identity is a big word
- Keywords
can be: Gender issues, morality and ethics, sexual orientation, Levinas
and Buber. What makes a family, put in form of a question, hidden
curricula, Human Rights and EU law are in conflict with religious
groups standing
-
How to translate the theme to the class room
- Could
the theme be the basis for a Comenius project??
- Peter
Schreiner has a name for gender speaker.
-
Not sure if the suggested speaker can relate to the classroom, from
what we know about her. Need to focus on the theme and development
of it first.
- Intergenerational
learning and globalization new buzz words for the commission

-
Outi will check a little on Comenius project
-
EU has a Job shadowing project - put on web what possibilities there
are, and Hugo does this for Spring newsletter.
-
Develop further the workshop concept, at a little cost, where we cover
some costs…asking specialist as a keynote.
-
Becoming an NGO is a complicated process, keep the focus on what we
are good at.

Any other business
- We
need to prepare changes in Exec as Marit will be leaving in 2013 and
Sonja cannot continue as the chair. It is not constitutional but it
is preferable if a member of the current executive takes over as chair,
but this is an elected position. Paul cannot stand as the executive
officer but will continue in this position.
