English Speaking and Listening Freya can make contributions in a variety of contexts, giving reasons and explaining why something interests her and can demonstrate active listening skills. She can make decisions on her own about roles within a group and can modify her opinions in response to others' ideas. Reading Freya can use a range of strategies to read new texts with fluency, understanding and expression. She can pick out relevant points from texts and can support points made with relevant quotations or references. Freya can identify the main purpose of tests and can make comments on the overall effect. She can infer meaning using evidence from different parts of a text and can pick out ways that the writer uses language for effect Writing (including handwriting) Freya varies the length, structure and subjects of sentences and uses some subordinating connectives throughout a piece of writing. She can punctuate sentences accurately throughout a text, including question marks. She uses speech marks correctly and other speech punctuation. Freya also uses commas in lists and to mark clauses. She uses paragraphs to organise her writing and can make links between paragraphs. She uses a range of connectives to link sentences. Freya forms her letters neatly and is able to use neat, cursive script. Target for improvement

| Mathematics
Using and Applying Freya can solve problems and carry through substantial tasks by breaking them into smaller, more manageable tasks, using a range of efficient techniques, methods and resources, including ICT; she can give solutions to an appropriate degree of accuracy. She can interpret, discuss and synthesise information presented in a variety of mathematical forms. Number Freya can recall multiplication facts up to 10x10 and quickly derive corresponding division facts. She can use effective written methods of addition and subtraction and of short multiplication and division and can solve problems with or without a calculator. Freya can add and subtract fractions by writing them with a common denominator, calculate fractions of quantities (fraction answers) and multiply and divide an integer by a fraction. She can calculate percentages and find the outcome of a given percentage increase and decrease. Shape, space and measures Freya can classify 3D and 2D shapes in various ways using mathematical properties such as reflective symmetry for 2D shapes and can reflect shapes, presented on a grid, in a vertical or horizontal mirror line. She can read and interpret scales on a range of measuring instruments, explaining what each labeled division represents and can solve problems involving the conversion of units. Freya can understand and use the formula for the area of a rectangle and distinguish area from perimeter. Handling Data Freya has carried out a number of investigations and can present data in a variety of ways, including pie charts. She can record probabilities as fractions on a relevant scale. She should be very proud of her achievements this year - I certainly am. Targets for improvement

| Science Topic Throughout the year, the class have looked at the themes of circulation, flowering plants, life cycles and changing sounds. Freya has worked tremendously hard to further her scientific knowledge throughout the year. Scientific Enquiry When answering questions, she will select from a range of sources and when appropriate she can make predictions and justify these based on her own knowledge. If the investigation requires a fair test, Freya can identify key factors that need changing or that need to be kept the same. She can make a series of observations, comparisons or measurements with precision, appropriate to the task. She is aware that some experiments may need repeating to ensure accurate results. Freya's work is always well organised and she uses tables and graphs as necessary, making appropriate use of ICT software. In her work, she uses scientific language and will suggest ways in which tests can be improved. freya has had an excellent year in this subject and she should be very proud of her achievements and dedication to the subject. |

| Themed Work Through our Themed Work this year, the children have had the opportunity to gain important knowledge and skills in many different areas. In Year 5, we have used 'Band Hero' on the Wii to excite learning about music in our topic 'School of Rock'. We learnt about how sound is made and about famous rock and roll stars such as The Beatles and Buddy Holly. In 'A Victorian Christmas', we were able to study 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens and reflect on what life was like for the Victorians. A trip to Sherwood Forest introduced out topic 'Into the Woods' where we learnt about the traditional tales of Robin Hood and life within different forests. The 'Asia' topic allowed the children to learn about a contrasting locality and in the topic 'Keen to be Green' we were able to go on a number of visits within the local area to look at how different businesses work hard to reduce waste. We considered the impact we all have on the environment and thought about ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. We are now working on 'Train, Pain, Fame', where the children are thinking about healthy living and the impact their actions and decisions have on their bodies. In studying these things, Freya was able to use ICT to help with geographical investigations as well as using the internet for valuable research and presentations, and she can recognise how people can improve or damage the environment by their actions. She has investigated art, craft and design in a variety of genres, styles and tradition and understands that the past is represented and interpreted in many different ways. |

| Other Subjects Music During our work in music this year we have looked at joining, following, extended and creating rhythms, using both body and oral percussion sounds as well as percussion instruments. The children have the opportunity to work in pairs and groups to compose their own rhythms, which has given them the opportunity to look in more detail at layers of sound. Freya has become very competent at following a rhythm and has worked carefully in a group to compose increasingly difficult sound patterns. We have also learned songs as part of our Christmas play and during topic work. Freya is a member of the school choir. Religious Education This year in RE, Year 5 have learned about the religions of Hinduism and Christianity. The children also learned about some of the key principles of Islam during our work on Asia. During our work on Hinduism, we looked in detail at the celebration of Diwali. In work about Christianity, we learned about the Christmas Story and philosophical questions about God, the existence of heaven and spiritual journeys. Freya has contributed well to our lessons, is always willing to consider others' views as well as justifying her own. Physical Education The children have practised the skills required in gymnastics, games and athletics. Freya has shown good skills and techniques in the different areas of of PE and plays games fairly and competitively. She understands the need for physical exercise and is currently doing well in our athletics work. Foreign Languages This year we have been fortunate to have Mademoiselle Gaudin from Lincoln Christ's Hospital School to teach us some of the French language. We have learned numbers, colours, days of the week and months of the year as well as how to tell people who we are and where we come from. We have also looked at the French culture. Freya has responded well to learning another language and has picked this up very quickly. |
