FAQ 1: Will G-AI replace me as a teacher? Simple answer, no. Technology has never replaced teachers per se as the human relationship between teacher and CYP (children and young people) is central and vital to the process. G-AI is a tool which is there to support and enhance the teacher not to take over the unique aspects of the relationship - used well and judiciously G-AI will give the teacher more time to focus on the essential, and desirable aspects of their work. |
FAQ 2: How will G-AI effect my teaching methods? G-AI is there to complement current teaching methods, offering additional resources and support. There is potential for it to provide personalised learning experiences for some students but this will not change the core of your teaching practice. This will, to some extent depend on your own pedagogical approach - how you use G-AI will be impacted by this so if you have a more instructional approach you will use G-AI differently than if you have a more constructavist approach. |
FAQ 3: Will using G-AI take more time and make planning more complex? There are always learning curves when using something new so it might well be that the first few times you use G-AI you will spend a little more time but as you get used to using the technology it should make things quicker and simpler. It should be able to automate aspects (especially those you would rather not spend time on!) and do data analysis which will make your teaching more effective. |
FAQ 4: Can G-AI handle diverse learning environments and different subject areas? Remember that G-AI models draw on existing data sets so there is some caution if you are using these to ask questions that challenge existing models but G-AI can be used across subjects and phases - though it may be more useful for certain areas where there is less contention or controversy. |
FAQ 5: Can G-AI help in classroom management G-AI cannot take the place of the adult in the classroom but it may help with analysis of behaviour and be able to support management of patterns. It may also help with the registration of behaviours and G-AI can be programmed to operate in a behaviourist manner when acting as a ITA. |
FAQ 6: Can AI help with understanding / support a student’s unique learning needs? Yes, one of AI’s strengths is the ability to analyse data. This can then provide insights into the learning needs of individual students. This can then help you to tailor lessons to students' needs. There is also developing potential for G-AI to provide an ITA (individualised teaching assistants) to CYP for example in translation or text simplification, or in wider support and further reading. |
FAQ 7: How will AI impact our interactions with students? This is more complex as there may be a number of ramifications depending on how G-AI is introduced. The use of ITAs may have some impact on relationships as the CYP may spend time interacting with the ITA and not you or other teachers. However, the use of G-AI may also help with the production of useful support materials and data to improve / enhance the relationship e.g translation materials or differentiation / adapative teaching materials. |
FAQ 8: Do I need huge tech skills to use G-AI Not necessarily. Most G-AI tools for education have user-friendly interfaces and are designed with teachers in mind. You will need some basic tech skills, that you probably have, to access the apps / tools. The key "new" skill is that of Prompt Engineering in thinking about the conversational aspects of using a G-AI interface as opposed to a search engine - though you may notice that search engines are now also using an G-AI interface integrated into their responses. |
FAQ 8: Will using G-AI in teaching be a major disruption Integrating AI into current practice can be done gradually and so does not an overhaul of your methods. You are in control (or your organisation) and so should only introduce G-AI use when you think it is useful and beneficial to you and to your CYP. |
FAQ 10: Is G-AI just a passing fad? Given the impact that AI has already had and the usage of G-AI it is unlikely that this will go away. You will see on the video the Gartner Hype cycle and it may be that we are in a time of hype that will relax a little but it is unlikely that G-AI will disappear However, AI in education is more than a trend; it’s part of an ongoing evolution in teaching and learning technologies. It’s becoming an increasingly important tool in modern education. |
