The Paranirvana

Gradually, like all people, the Buddha got older and his body became frail. Eventually he got very sick and near to death (from food poisoning apparently).

He gave a wonderful speech before he died at a place called Kusinara, his last words being "be your own refuge, with awareness, strive on!". His death is known as the Paranirvana.
