What is this about?

A multi-path narrative(MPN) allows children to develop ideas that have a range of possibilities - these can be useful when thinking about both religious and ethical / moral issues.

Practical Issues

MPNs can be made using presentation technologies such as Powerpoint or Keynote or using webpages with HTML coding. For both of these there are a number of skills that have to be learnt including the ability to add action buttons and map out the multi-path nature of the hyper links in the artefact (see the resources section for some links)

Case Study

Activity Description

The students will create a MPN based on a piece of learning in the RE scheme of work. This needs to be an area where there are a number of choices so could be: concepts of the creation of the world, choices around assisted dying, what is a good person ... etc.

The children will create a "teaching" resource that will help another child to develop the concepts and the ideas that are needed to for this see the example below for the ideas which sit behind this.

ICT resource used

  • A device with presentation software
  • Bank of multi-media resource

Learning Objectives

  • To explore and analyse a religious ideas or concept and then to create an artefact of learning to allow others to do the same.

Commentary on the ICT use

Students are often familiar with the linear nature of presentation technology but not with the wider options - this also comes into the beginnings of computing as it allows children to consider the aspects of organization and structure which are key requisites for planning.
