The
Executive comprises the four elected honorary officers: Chair, Vice
Chair, Treasurer and Secretary, and eight other people elected by member
SACREs at the annual meeting. The Executive has the power to co-opt
up to three additional people. Also in attendance is the editor of SACRE
News and the immediate past Chair, acting as Executive Assistant.
The
Executive is responsible for policy and planning of events and activities
in fulfilment of the aims of the association. It meets each term to
plan events and discuss policy and operational issues as they arise. |
Executive
members and officers also:

represent the interests of SACREs at meetings of the Department for
Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), the Qualifications and Curriculum
Development Authority (QCDA) and in communications with Ofsted;
-
represent the association at meetings of both the Religious Education
Council of England and Wales (REC) and the Inter Faith Network UK
(IFNUK);
-
initiate and maintain contact with faith community representatives
across the faith spectrum;
-
respond to national consultations, national reports and published
articles relating to the work of SACREs;
-
attend national conferences, seminars and discussion groups; NASACRE
was represented in both the writing group for the non-statutory National
Framework for Religious Education (DfES 2004) and on its steering
group; it also contributed to both the Reference Group for the new
primary curriculum and the Steering Group for the new RE Guidance
(2008/9);

contribute to curriculum development with other national bodies;

are involved in the current national roll out of the training programme
for new SACRE members from faith communities, having participated
in the delivery of REC pilot training courses during 2006/7;

administer the on-going Young People’s Faith Forum initiative,
in partnership with the Westhill Endowment Trustees, and monitor current
projects;
- are
involved in planning and organising conferences for SACRE members
with national bodies, for example, the QCDA and the IFNUK;
-
respond to enquiries from SACRE chairs, clerks and individual members,
both by telephone and email; members of the executive also visit the
meetings of member SACREs when they are invited and are able;
-
liaise with the Association of RE Inspectors, Advisers and Consultants
(AREIAC) and the National Association of Teachers of Religious Education
(NATRE) with which NASACRE has close links.
As
the role NASACRE plays nationally is evolving all the time, so the executive
