WebQuest

Exploring a Christian response to poverty

For this section you will need paper and a pen or pencil.

Step 1: One person's story

Use the Global Gang Website [www.globalgang.org.uk - opens in new tab or window] to find and read stories of children living in very poor conditions in different parts of the world today.

Go to ‘search’ on the Global gang home page. Type in the names of the following children to read their stories:

Mahamadou, 7, lives in Mali (northwest Africa)
Sara, 8, lives in Bolivia in South America
Gile, 10, lives in Bangladesh
Mario, 11, lives Guatemala
Wa Moo Paw, 11 is Burmese
Eboku, 15, lives in Uganda

With a partner, choose one story to think and talk about.

Ask yourselves .. 'What if it were me?'

Talk about the following, making a note of your ideas:

  • If I was ............ (name of child in story)

  • the worst thing in my life would be ...

  • the best thing in my life would be ...

  • I would need ...

  • I would want ...

  • I would feel ...

  • I would wonder ...

Create a poster or presentation to share the story and your ideas to the class. Think about ways you could design this to make it more interesting for the reader. Do you want to give it an original heading and include a photograph of the person whose story it is? Do you want to use speech bubbles to show your thoughts? Do you want to include questions for your audience to think about?
